With a desire to get out of the traditional work force, Cheryl Meyer had an idea. "They always say, do what you love and success will follow. Well, I love keeping active, being outside, and I love dogs...sounds like pretty good work if you can get it!" Thus, in beautiful Qualicum Beach, B.C., 2004, Outbound Hounds Pet Care Service was born.

With an extensive background in business in the hospitality industry, a B.A. in Psych/Sociology from the University of Victoria and experience working in the field of education with special needs kids, Meyer enjoyed working with people in very challenging and hectic environments. "While I loved my previous jobs, as many do, I often found myself drained at the end of the week." It was time for a change!

Taking  her experience and interest in small business, transferring many of the skills to work with animals, Meyer began developing Outbound Hounds. She supplemented her education and general knowledge as a dog owner/lover, taking a Vet's Assistant course, Pet 1st Aid classes and audited various dog training courses. Meyer also became a member of the local chapters of the SPCA and Chamber of Commerce.

Operating Outbound Hounds in the Oceanside area through Jan. 2006, Meyer then sold her business to Martha Giannakopoulos, one of the pet-care providers working with her. "My husband and I made the decision to move to the Sooke area. It was very sad to say goodbye to my clients, both human and 4-legged. They become your close and treasured companions". Fortunately, Outbound Hounds would continue offering services to its friends in the Parksville/Qualicum Beach area with Martha at the helm.

May 2006 saw the launch of the 2nd location of Outbound Hounds Pet Care Services in Sooke and the surrounding areas. " It's fun to meet new people and pets in the community and network with other pet care professionals". Building a thriving business over 3 years in Sooke, Meyer once again sold to a local couple, former clients actually, as she and her husband made a move up-Island. "Don and Jaime Whittaker are a lovely, animal-loving couple, very excited to take over the reigns with Outbound Hounds Sooke."

Relocating to her home town of Duncan, Meyer is delighted to bring her pet care service home to the Cowichan Valley. May 2009 introduces the 3rd outlet of Outbound Hounds. "I am so pleased to be back in the Valley. One of my all-time favourite places." Meyer anticipates becoming an active member of the community, offering the services of Outbound Hounds to locals and visitors alike.
